This is the journey of renovating our 1910 Queensland Workers Cottage, which had been turned into  6 bedroom share accommodation for students 15 years ago. As an Interior Designer I get the opportunity to work on so many fantastic client projects, this time the project was ours & I was on the other side of the fence, what a huge learning curve both personally & professionally!

I truly don't believe Interior Designers can make a claim of being an experienced Interior Designer until they work on their own renovation project!  I now have a new found respect for my clients & know exactly the highs & lows experienced throughout the renovation process, but most importantly that wonderful gift of a renovated home at the end of the tunnel is just magical & its this that keeps us going when the going gets tough.

After almost 6 months of renovating we moved into our new home & after living in our cottage for 3 months we wouldn't  change a thing.  So many hours were spent trying to incorporate our wish list into the design of our cottage.  We re zoned the existing rooms in the original cottage to include living room, office, 3 bedrooms, master bedroom with an ensuite & a main bathroom.  We added an extension to the back of the cottage, we wanted it to be bright & open plan area, to incorporate kitchen/butlers pantry, dining/living flowing onto an outdoor living space. 

 

We decided to break the renovation project up into 2 stages, stage one on the cottage & stage 2 will involve the addition of a carport at the front & a covered deck to the rear which is schedule to start shortly.
